Sandeep Sen

I am interested to study the role of biogeography, ecology and climate in driving speciation processes and in shaping current species distribution patterns

After receiving a masters degree from Mahatma Gandhi University, India on Plant Biotechnology, I joined ATREE’s PhD program on Conservation Science and Sustainability Studies in 2011. My thesis* focuses on Phylogeny of the tropical plant genus Piper with a special interest to trace the origin of the economically and historically important spice crop Black Pepper (Piper nigrum)

I have also been fascinated to understand the role of climate in shaping macroecological patterns as well as individual species distributions in past and the future to formulate effective conservation management programs

Research foci

Biogeography,Phylogenetics,Climate change,Population genetics,Conservation
