Funded 3 Year PhD Position: Transmission dynamics of Rabies in multi-host systems

We are recruiting for a fully funded PhD position to investigate the Transmission dynamics of Rabies in multi-host systems. This is part of a larger Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance funded research project titled "Bringing "OneHealth" to rabies research in India: integrating animal ecology, disease ecology, and human health".

Expectations: The PhD student will develop and test hypotheses on the role of dog population size, demography, movement, and inter and intra specific contact rates as drivers of rabies transmission. The PhD student is expected to work closely with other team members, and partner institutions.

Required Qualifications: A Masters in Epidemiology, Veterinary Science, Microbiology, Ecology or allied fields. Proficiency in written and spoken English, a valid 4 wheeler license, and demonstration of research productivity (manuscripts prepared, submitted or published).

Desirable qualificiations: Proficiency in R, familiarity with ecological or mathematical modelling tools, analysis of movement data, GIS data or spatial statistics is a plus. Fluency in Hindi/Marathi/Kannada is a plus.

The research will require extensive travelling between field sites in Pune, Solapur and Baramati (Maharashtra) and Bangalore.

Fellowship equivalent of JRF/SRF + HRA, plus opportunities to travel to international collaborators/conferences paid for by the project.
